Some links on this page are affiliate links. If you buy through them we may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. Every current price on this page is rendered from our price registry, with the date we last read it on the live listing next to it; the receipts are the prices we recorded on the day of each sale. Saatva sells direct only, so that link pays us nothing.
A mattress sale price is a costume. The discount claim rotates with the calendar, the list price is whatever the brand needs it to be that week, and the only fact in the whole display is the dollar amount you would pay today. So this page tracks that number, mattress by mattress, and writes down what the same bed cost at the last holiday event. When Black Friday banners arrive in November, you compare the banner to a receipt instead of to a feeling.
We started keeping these receipts at Memorial Day 2026, when the Nectar queen wore a $799 tag dressed up as 33% off and then quietly dropped to $699 in August with no holiday anywhere near it. That one listing taught us the whole method. The table below is the current state; the dated sections under it are the history; the Black Friday section fills in as the first announced prices land.
The Tracker: Current Price vs Last Receipt
| Mattress (queen) | Price now (date we read it) | Labor Day 2026 receipt | Memorial Day 2026 receipt | Our call today |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Nectar Memory Foam | $699 (October 25, 2026), list $1,199 | $699 on August 11 | $799 (sold as 33% off) | Buy at or under $699; a banner rarely beats it |
| Casper Original | $1,295 (October 25, 2026) | $1,295 on August 16 (no cut we recorded) | $696 | Wait; $696 is what this bed costs on sale |
| Saatva Classic (direct) | $1,904 sale, $2,229 list (October 25, 2026) | $1,904 sale / $2,229 list on September 7 | not tracked | The sale is the price; ignore the list |
| Helix Midnight | $1,183 (October 25, 2026) | $1,183 on September 8 | not tracked | Fair at this price; no sale history yet |
| Helix Midnight Luxe | $1,999 (October 25, 2026) | $1,874 on September 8 | $1,624 (sold as $300 off) | Wait; it has been $250 cheaper |
| Tuft & Needle Original Hybrid | $1,545, list $1,545 (October 25, 2026) | $1,158.75 on September 8 | not tracked | Wait: it was $1,158.75 on September 8 (the all-foam Original left Amazon) |
| Zinus Green Tea 12-inch | $322.99, list $322.99 (October 25, 2026) | $249 on September 8 | not tracked | Wait for about $250; it was $249 on September 8 |
Two reading notes. First, “not tracked” means we did not record that mattress at that event, and we will not backfill a number from memory or from a brand’s own “was” price. Second, every Amazon price is the queen size, because that is the size the brands use to set their banners; the king usually moves in lockstep, the twin often does not.
Memorial Day 2026: What We Recorded
Our Memorial Day 2026 sales page logged four prices in late May. The Casper Original queen was $696, advertised as 25% off, and it was the cheapest defensible upgrade on the list. The Helix Midnight Luxe queen was $1,624, advertised as $300 off. The Brooklinen Marlow pillow was $57. And the Nectar queen was $799, advertised as 33% off, which our page called “a year-round price with a Memorial Day sticker” at the time, because it was the same $799 the listing had carried every other weekend that spring.
That last line aged well. Within three months the Nectar was a hundred dollars cheaper with no sale on. Memorial Day did not discount it; the calendar just moved on and the street price wandered down. Keep that in mind every time a banner tells you what something “was.”
Labor Day 2026: What We Recorded
We price-checked the Memorial Day list on August 11, ahead of the Labor Day banners, and the market had flipped. The Nectar queen was $699, below its own May sale price; our Labor Day page called it a buy-now and it held at $699 through the holiday (we re-read the listing on September 7). The Casper Original had gone the other way: $1,295 on August 16 against $696 in May, and we never recorded a Labor Day cut on the Amazon listing. If Casper ran one, we missed it, and we would rather say so than invent a receipt.
Saatva runs its own show. On September 7, the last day of its Labor Day event, saatva.com had the Classic queen (11.5-inch, Luxury Firm) at $1,904 against a $2,229 list. The sale, not the list, is the price this mattress actually changes hands at; we have never seen it sell at $2,229 and we do not expect to. Our Nectar vs Saatva Classic comparison does the math on whether the coil-on-coil build is worth about $1,200 more than the Nectar.
One more drift worth logging: the Helix Midnight Luxe queen, $1,624 at Memorial Day, was $1,874 on Amazon on September 8, and its all-foam Tuft & Needle neighbor left Amazon entirely (only the Original Hybrid remains, $1,158.75 that day). Both changes came out of the sweep behind our best mattresses under $1,500 list, where the Luxe had priced itself out of the bracket.
The Under-$300 Floor
Some mattresses do not need a holiday, and pretending otherwise wastes a month. The Zinus Green Tea 12-inch queen was $322.99 when we read it on October 25, 2026 (list $322.99), the LUCID 10-inch medium gel queen was $224.99 (list $299.99, read September 8, 2026), and the Linenspa 5-inch gel foam queen was $195.19 (September 8, 2026). At these prices a Black Friday cut is twenty or thirty dollars, which is less than the cost of sleeping badly for eight weeks while you wait. Our memory foam under $1,000 list explains what each of these gives up, and it is not nothing: thinner comfort layers, shorter warranties, and in the Linenspa’s case a bed that is really a thick topper for a guest room or a first apartment.
Black Friday 2026: What to Expect (Updated as Prices Land)
Nothing is announced yet, and we will not print a Black Friday price until we have read one on a listing. What we can tell you is the shape of it, from the two events above. Holiday cuts land on flagship foam and hybrid models; accessories wear token stickers. The brands switch their banners on early, one to two weeks before the day itself was the pattern for Labor Day, and we would guess late October to the first week of November for Black Friday, with the same price running through Cyber Monday. And the size of the cut is only meaningful against the receipts above: a Casper at $696 again is a sale; a Nectar at $749 dressed as 40% off a $1,199 list is a worse price than August.
When the first prices land, this section gets a dated line per mattress, and the table at the top gets a Black Friday column. If you are deciding between waiting and buying, our premium mattress budget guide covers what each price tier actually buys, so the decision is about the bed and not the banner.
How to Use a Sale Page Without Getting Played
Three rules, and they are the whole method. Compare the dollar price, never the percent; a percent is a ratio to a list price the brand controls. Treat a “was” price as a fact only if someone independent wrote it down on a date, which is what the receipts here are for. And expect the deep cuts on flagships, so if the model you want is the cheapest thing a brand sells, the holiday probably will not touch it and you can stop waiting.
Two practical notes for Amazon listings specifically. The queen is the reference size; check that the size selector on the listing matches before you trust a price, because a twin and a king can sit on the same page. And the “bought in past month” badge is demand, not a discount; it goes up during sales because of the sale, not because the bed got better.
Where We Land Today
If the Nectar is the mattress you want, and our two-year owner review covers who it fits, buy it at or under $699 whenever you see that number; waiting for a holiday has not beaten it in 2026. If the Casper is the one, and the Casper Original review explains why its zoned support earns a slot at its sale price and not at list, wait for a banner and measure it against $696. Saatva buyers should read the Saatva Classic review and then treat the sale price as the price. Everyone under $300 should just buy the bed.

We re-read every listing on this page before each holiday event and whenever a reader tells us a price moved (admin@nestnthrive.com). The dates next to each price are the honest limit of what we know. If you are starting from zero rather than upgrading, the how to choose a mattress guide sorts the feel and firmness questions first; this page only answers whether today is a good day to pay.
What to consider
The dollar price is the fact; the percent off is a ratio to a list price the brand controls. A "was" price is only a fact if someone independent recorded it on a date. Holiday cuts land on flagship foam and hybrid models; accessories and the under-$300 tier wear token stickers, so if you are shopping that tier, stop waiting. Check the size selector before trusting any Amazon price.
Frequently asked questions
When do Black Friday mattress sales start in 2026?
Nothing is announced as we write this. Our expectation from the 2026 Memorial Day and Labor Day events is that brands switch their banners on one to two weeks early, so late October to the first week of November, with the same price running through Cyber Monday. This page gets a dated line per mattress as the first prices land.
Is a Black Friday mattress sale really cheaper than other times of year?
Sometimes. The Casper Original queen was $696 at Memorial Day 2026 and $1,295 in August, so for that bed the holiday is the price. The Nectar queen went the other way, $799 at Memorial Day and $699 in August with no sale on. Compare the dollar price to the receipts on this page, not to the percent-off claim.
Why do you track the queen size only?
The queen is the size brands use to set their banners and the one most listings default to. Kings usually move in step with it; twins often do not. Check the size selector on any listing before trusting a price, since several sizes can share one page.
Is the Saatva Classic list price real?
We have never seen the Classic sell at its list price. On September 7, 2026, saatva.com had the queen at $1,904 against a $2,229 list. Treat the sale price as the price and compare that number between events. Saatva sells direct only, so it is not on Amazon.
How often are the prices on this page updated?
Current prices come from our price registry and carry the date we last read the live listing. We re-read every mattress here before each holiday event and whenever a reader reports a change. The receipts are historical and never change.
